Shankara ('merciful') is one of the appellations of Shiva. Shiva is seen here in pink clothes, with his usual trident and with a third eye in his forehead. When Shiva is enraged, his third eye has a burning power.

Shiva's consort is known by many names, among them: Parvati (Mountain-dweller); Uma, Daughter of Himavata, Ruler of the Mountains; Gauri (Light One, Sparkling).
