The goddess Parvati appears here as Mahadevi, consort of the Great God Shiva Mahadeva. With eight arms, she sits on a throne. In front of her is her mount, the lion, associated with Shiva's wife in all her manifestations. Other benevolent forms of Parvati are Gauri and Bhuvaneshvari, but under the names Durga, Bhairavi, Kali, and others, the goddess exhibits her terrifying aspects.
